Lorrie Moore's "How" - Opinion

Clearly this story was very odd. The point of view is what made it odd. If the narrator had told the story in a different way, like someone looking in on the couple, it might have seemed a little more normal. It kind of reads like a how to book, "How to meet the man of your dreams and then mess it all up".

This story frustrated me a little but at some times I could relate to it. It seems like this lady really should go on the Dr. Phil show because she seemed to push away a perfectly good guy. He took interest in the thing she said she was interested in and even towards the end when he basically knew she was cheating on him, he still cleaned up after her and did her laundry. The part that I could relate to was when she said that eventually you just because bored. I definitely agree with that. I have been with my boyfriend for 5 months and although I love him dearly, there are times where it feels like were just stuck in a rut. I think everyone goes through that but the narrator went a little extreme by cheating on her boyfriend.

I like how you suggest this couple might be good material for the Dr. Phil show! Funny!

I kind of liked how the story was written. It was different than what I read in the past and made the story more interesting to me. I think the story works better this way than if it was written in a more traditional manner.

Yes, I diffinetly agree that this story was odd. Also, I can relate as well. Why would she push away a great guy? Some people are not appreciative of what they have until it is gone. I thought that you did a really good job of explaining why and how the story related to you personally.

I completely agree with you that the story was narrated very strangely. I got a kick out of when you were talking about how the narrator should go on Dr. Phil. She does take her boyfriend for granted way too often and she needs to realize that she is lucky. How many boys are going to clean up and do your laundry for you?

I really enjoyed the way that the story was told. I took it as more of an advice column that got too personal.

And as for the getting bored thing, I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years, and it does get a bit old but you just have to think of fun stuff to do together and remember why you liked each other in the first place :-)
